What causes sensitivity?

Dr Uchenna says, “Teeth are like skin, the outer enamel is like your epidermis and when we insult it, whether by our lifestyle, what we eat and drink, or insufficient oral care, it erodes the enamel layer of the tooth to exposes the underlying dermis layer (the dentine) and this like skin has little holes called tubules that go straight towards the nerve to where the pulp of the tooth is. This indirect exposure of the nerve is why you feel unexpected tooth sensitivity or pain. Other factors are receding gums - caused by teeth grinding, age and menopause - that will slowly reveal the root of your tooth, which doesn't have an enamel layer.”
